Lake Tahoe Truckee Winter Activities at Best Western Truckee Tahoe Lodge
Every year, winter
sports enthusiasts come to conquer North Lake Tahoe's thousands
of vertical feet. Truckee is within 15 miles of 11 different
ski areas: Squaw Valley, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Alpine Meadows,
Sugar Bowl, Homewood, Boreal, Diamond Peak, Mt. Rose, Donner
Ski Ranch, Tahoe Donner and Soda Springs. Whether you ski or
snowboard, this is the place to be! Plenty of other winter recreation
options abound: sledding, ice skating, horseback riding (no kidding!),
snowmobiling and snowshoeing are all available nearby.
So you think you’ve got what it takes! Don‘t be
so sure. These mountains eat people like you for breakfast! Lots
of hotshots have tried to conquer these crags, but few leave
victorious. Most retreat satisfied, but humbled by these 10,000-foot
beasts. Which one of you will be Truckee’s David?
Looking for the ski run less traveled?
Try Homewood Mountain Resort on weekends and holidays. You'll
pass four major resorts on the way that siphon off most of
the crowd, so the lift lines are usually small. Plus, the mountain
is totally legit! Homewood has 1600 vertical feet and 1200
acres, which makes it a lesser-known gem of Lake Tahoe. On
a powder day, go skier's right on the cat track from the Ellis
Chair. Ride into the trees called "Hobbit
Land". The snow is always deep and the trees are perfectly
spaced. The tree skiing in that area is truly epic! |
